Caribbean American State Delegate Shirley Nathan-Pulliam to participate in WETATi International Women's Conference
State Delegate Shirley Nathan-Pulliam will participate in the annual WETATi International Women's Conference. WETATi stands for Women Empowered To Achieve The Impossible. The conference will be held on March 29-30, in Linthicum, Maryland. Ms. Nathan Pulliam will bring greetings to the conference.
Born in Jamaica, she is the first Caribbean born person and the first African Caribbean nurse to be elected to the Maryland General Assembly in its 433 session history.

Nathan-Pulliam to challenge Jones-Rodwell for Senate
Tuesday was the first day candidates could file for the 2014 election, and 11 candidates took the plunge, including four Montgomery County legislators filing as a team for reelection.
The juiciest tidbit from the filings posted daily by the State Board of Elections was Del. Shirley Nathan-Pulliam, a 20-year veteran Democrat currently representing Baltimore County District 10, filing to run for state Senate in the redrawn District 44 currently represented by Sen. Verna Jones-Rodwell.

Women's voices, women's votes
Female legislators in Maryland are determined not to lose recent gains in health care, employment, rights.
TV commercials, debates, rallies and campaign speeches are among the ways to view the presidential candidates' positions and what's important to women in this year's election. Another way is speaking to female legislators to get their perspective on issues of concern to women. I was fortunate to interview a diverse group of women legislators from Maryland and the Maryland Women's Caucus on the issues that pertain to women.
Maryland women lawmakers represent the diversity of our country with members from all walks of life, ethnicities, races and sexual orientations, including African-Americans, Hispanics, whites, Asian-Americans/Pacific Islanders, Indian-Americans, Caribbean-Americans and openly gay members.
